Chocolate Covered Oreo Truffles

Absolute crowd pleaser, if my recent trip Up North is anything to go by:

1 package of Oreo cookies (about 165g/5.4oz)
About 2.4oz cream cheese, but this is a bit of a guesstimate
Melted chocolate to cover.

This is possibly the easiest thing ever. Just blitz a packet of Oreos, yummy soft centres and all, in a food processor until you have what looks like black crumbly sand.

Mix all this crumbly stuff with the cream cheese, bit by bit - it'll start off looking like grey cement, but mix it all in until it clumps together and you can roll it into balls.

Then you roll it all into balls, whatever size you like, and refrigerate these baby truffles for a bit, until they're slightly more solid.

Dip the little darlings in chocolate, leave to set on baking parchment and you're done!

I, of course, tend to go over the top and dust them with gold powder, but that's really unnecessary, they're gorgeous as they are. This one packet mix makes a sensible amount of truffles, but that's never really enough, so do two!

I want to do this. I want to pull on my wellies/sandals [hello temperamental British weather] and go explore, climb over  fences and stiles, ignore keep out signs, write letters to people, have midnight barbeques, sleep in a giant sleepover pile, eat soft-boiled eggs with toast soldiers - basically I need to get out of the house. It's been 2 days. I'm going nuts here.

Also - oooh look pretty music.

However, I have spent the evening eating chocolate covered strawberries, and I have an AWESOME nail colour on my nails right now [it's turquoise - edgyyyyy, right?] so life's not too bad. I just like to complain.

I've had a screamingly indulgent day. Sat on the sofa, jazz playing on the soundsystem, reading about the Ancient Greeks [my current obsession], snacking on fresh baked bread with olive oil and anchovies. Ahhhhhh anchovies. You're so bloody bony, you little buggers, but I forgive you because you taste so yummy and salty.

Tomorrow is a doing day, I think. I'm going to do stuff, instead of just aiming to do stuff.

How epic is this song?

Epic.

Tom Ford's A Single Man.

I don't know why I put off seeing it so long, when I knew I'd love it. And I did - love at first sight, or first scene. It's an absolute smorgasbord of beautiful things [of course, I mean, who are we kidding - it's Tom Ford], not least of which is the delight that is Mr Darcy aka Colin Firth, putting in a breathtaking performance of a university lecturer dealing with the loss of his lover. Another gem is Nicholas Hoult's Lolita-esque student, hinting at but never quite saying his intentions, holding all the power but in such a way that emphasises the vulnerability in Firth.

The nuances of this film are the icing on what is already a very delicious cake - the hesitancy and self-doubt that Firth portrays allows us to see for ourselves the context of the situation, to draw our own conclusions without having them thrust clumsily upon us, as is the wont of modern-day blockbusters.

Living a lonely life, hiding a true persona, the uncertainty inherent in embarking upon a new relationship - all are themes which we can ourselves empathise with, yet the environment and the beauty of Ford's film is something we can only aspire to.

Watch it. Please.

One of my favourite parts of the film is the orderliness of George's life, the systematic way of setting out his accoutrements, in clear juxtaposition to the disorder of his emotions, his grief and lust and ennui.
